Students, Teachers, and Advocates Speak Out at City Council Hearing in Support of a Bottle Tax for School Construction

Tuesday, April 17, 2012

BALTIMORE – On April 18th, members of the Transform Baltimore campaign and the Baltimore Education Coalition will urge their City Council representatives to pass a five cent beverage container tax (Council Bill 1270033) for school construction. This legislation would support an estimated $155 million in borrowing, enough to fully build 10 new elementary schools or replace windows at 135 schools that need them. The tax, estimated to generate $10 million per year, would be used to repay this critical investment in our schools over 25 or 30 years.
